I just picked up a holiday season onsite help desk contract for a major big box store and they are having some issues with their IBM 4800 POS terminals. The issue is where the terminal will get an error message while a customer is being checked out that say "buffer full" and then the terminal will freeze up and the unit has to be restarted.
Level two tech support says that this issue "happens" and it is in part due to the Veriphone pin pad. Their fix is to reboot the terminal but the issue still persists so they reset the terminals and to reload the pin pad software.
I asked them if this may be a hardware issue with the memory but they said most likely not.
Does anyone have any ideas as what the core of the issue really is or does it just run out of memory?
