This has been confusing me for ages and haven't been able to get anywhere on why it's occurring.
I have an IBM x3400 M3 server that originally had a single 920W power supply and a blank, I then purchased a 2nd Power supply (39Y7387) that I installed.
The problem is that only one supply ever wants to be active at a time, when either of the units are plugged in they both power up, they both show the green status lights and redundancy is in place. However after a random period of time (Sometimes it's minutes, sometimes it's a hour) the 2nd power supply gets dropped and a redundancy lost error is asserted.
It does't seem to matter which power supply is in which slot, and the one that is dropped isn't always the same one, once it's dropped it stays dropped unless I unplug it then plug it back in and it works... for that random time frame.
